Clogged gutters prevent water from leaving your home. Water will spill down the gutters, causing

foundation damage, structural issues, mould, and basement flooding – if you have a basement.

Clogged gutters cause roof water to pool and stagnate, which is never a good sign. Water will damage

your roof, tiles, and soffit and fascia, and maybe more.

A large quantity of water that is not able to travel or disperse, can also deform and weigh down the gutter

system before detaching from the house and taking other elements of your roof with it. Clogged gutters

retain water and moisture for a longer period of time than is necessary and this becomes a breeding

ground for moss and algae love damp places. Swollen and furry looking green gutters look ugly and can

break, causing roofing and rainfall system issues.

When it is coming to winter, there is even the possibility of water that is stagnant in your gutter will

freeze. This increases the likelihood of ice dams, which can cause extensive and intense damage to your

home when they melt.

If you don't clean your gutters to prevent blockages, you risk additional damage to

your downpipe. Downpipes are tubes that run from the gutter to the ground and as they are usually one

single piece, they can be difficult to repair and replacement is the best option.

Clean gutters regularly if you live in an area with heavy rain and lots of leaves in autumn. On a dry day,

remove debris from the gutters if you can easily reach them and once in a while stand in the rain and

watch how your gutters behave!
